At least 36 people were killed and 19 injured on Wednesday after a passenger bus plunged into the Chenab River gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda. Some travellers are reported to be critical. The injured have been admitted to Assar’s primary health care (PHC) centre.
Senior police officials are at the spot and investigating the cause of the accident. An official said that the rescue operation is still going on.
J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that he is “extremely pained by the loss of lives” and wished for a speedy recovery of injured.

Union minister Jitendra Singh informed that he spoke to Doda’s district commissioner Harvinder Singh, and the official death toll is five.
“Injured being shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar and GMC Doda as per requirement. Helicopter service to be arranged for shifting the more injured ones. All possible help, as required being provided. I am in constant touch,” Singh posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Giving an update later, Singh said that unfortunately the death toll has risen to 36 and 19 people have been injured.
